Talented
Ira Losco has won the Malta Song for Europe 2002 Festival, earning a pass
to this year's Eurovision Song Contest with her song "7th Wonder."
"7th
Wonder" was composed by Philip Vella and penned by Gerald James Borg,
the duo behind Claudette Pace's Desire that won the Song for Europe Festival
two years ago.
Ira Losco's
song got the maximum points from all five foreign judges of the contest
and was also won the largest number of preferences amongst the 36,817
televiewers who voted by phone. The televoting ballot had the weight of
three judges.
Karen Polidano's
angelic voice and her "When comes my lover" earned the Canadian-born
a well-deserved second place. Ira Losco's other song, "One step away"
landed in third place.
The two nights
of the Festival which took place at the Mediterranean Conference Centre
on the 15th and 16th of February were presented by Peppi Azzopardi and
Valerie Borg.
In these
