The Malta Song for Europe 2005 final was held on Saturday 19th February and the winner will represent Malta at the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest.

Chiara will be representing Malta in the 50th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Kiev, Ukraine on May 21st. This will be the second Eurovision Song Contest for Chiara, following her successful participation in 1998 when she placed 3rd. Her self-penned song, Angel, garnered a total of 11,935 votes during the final night of the Malta Song for Europe. Olivia Lewis placed second with Déjà vu, written by Gerard James Borg with music by Philip Vella. The song obtained 11,369 votes. J. Anvil placed third with You, composed by Augusto Cardinali with words by John Attard. The song received 5,903 votes.

The top songs in the Malta Song for Europe 2005 festival were chosen by public televoting. Here's a full list of the 10 songs that received the highest amount of televotes from the public, as announced on the final night:

The sub-final of the 2005 Song for Europe Festival was held on Saturday 8th January at the Golden Tulip Vivaldi Hotel in St. Julian's. All 50 songs in the sub-final were heard twice, first on CD and then the singers performed the songs live.

In the final contest, singers can only perform one song. If a singer has more than one song that qualifies to the final contest, the song that obtains the highest number of points at the sub-final will be the one they perform at the final. The other song/s would have to be either (a) withdrawn from the competition by their composer or (b) presented to another singer.
