On
Saturday 15 May 2004 the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) presented the 49th edition of the
Eurovision Song Contest through TRT (Turkish Radio Television) in Istanbul,
Turkey. This year Malta had to take part in a Qualifying Round
on Wednesday, 12 May 2004, because it did not place among the top 15 songs in the 2003 Eurovision
Song Contest. Malta's representatives for 2004 were Julie and Ludwig who sang On Again...Off
Again, with music by Philip Vella and lyrics by Gerard James Borg. The Maltese entry was successful at the Qualifying Round, making it through to the 2004 final contest. Malta placed 12th in the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest final. The contest was won by Ruslana and her song Wild Dances representing the Ukraine.
